Planting Garden

Today's picture shows a young lady planting her garden. The picture was taken in 1943 near Washington DC. I think spring planting is the most enjoyable part of gardening. It feels good to finally get out in the sun after a cold winter. How many of you have a garden in the works this year?

  1. While on the subject of gardening, how is your hydroponic project doing? Do you still have it on the go?

  2. I really enjoy gardening with raised beds, though this year I have to switch to some containers while doing some repair work on the beds. The hardest part is keeping my beagle from climbing the fence to beat me to the tomatoes!

  3. +1 one for an update on the greenhouse and hydroponics. That stuff is sooo nice, I miss those updates :)

  4. Despite living on several acres, I have been unsuccessful in growing outside - moles, gophers, rabbits, deer and the free ranging chickens. I have had much better luck using my breakfast room - all windows and primarily facing south - to grow during the winter. This year I am also planning on trying a keyhole garden outside . . . will see if that solves my outdoor gardening issues. (Indoor garden can be viewed on my blog.)

  5. This looks like a large garden--maybe a Victory Garden. I love the gardener's saddle shoes, too! No gardens for me anymore, since I now live in a 12th floor apt in the city.

  6. The usual big vegetable garden is planned, ~30' x 40'. We fight the deer and rabbits here, too. We fence our garden to protect from some of the critters including our free range chickens. We had a dusting of snow today, so no planting here for quite some time.
