Prospector

Today's picture shows a prospector with his burro in Oregon. He looks to be fairly well equipped, including what looks like a shotgun. The picture was taken in 1903.

  1. This picture reminded me of a toy I had as a kid, a spring-loaded mule that you had to load with all sorts of prospecting gear, until you broke the weight limit and the mule would kick everything out ... There was the pan, shovel, rope, gun, etc.

  2. He looks to be carrying a large caliber lever action rifle.

  3. I agree with Mark. A rifle not a shotgun.
