Mexican Sombrero

Today's picture shows the Sombrero Market in Mexico City. The picture was taken around 1910. I wonder if the Sombrero is still as popular and mainstream now as it was back in the day.

  1. Boy, those are bigger than ten gallon sombreros! I'm guessing that in rural areas, they still hold sway, but that in Mexico City and many other areas, the cowboy hat has taken over. Lots of cultural overlap across the border.

  2. Someplace I have a picture of The Squire and his brother wearing "tourist" sombreros holding the price tags - in Pesos - under their chins as if they were prison numbers. Since there are over 16 pesos to a dollar, it was quite a large number!
