Horse and Buggy

Today's picture shows a horse and buggy in front of the Tyler School in Washington DC. The picture was taken in 1899. Notice how nicely all the children are dresses.

  1. I suppose this horse and buggy belong to the teacher, the owner of the stupendous hat! Since the kids are all about the same size, I presume they are probably her class. Yes, they're well dressed. Even then, DC had its good neighborhoods and its bad, and this was clearly a good, solid, middle class neighborhood. It's as well kept as the kids are, with the well-cut paving stones, no weeds even next to the school building. It's not brand new, given the height of the trees--all well established, not down at heel.
