Bread Lines

This picture shows another iconic part of the 1930's . . . bread lines. In the 30's people often had to stand in line for free soup or bread just to stay alive. Again, pictures such as these are in such contrast to the abundance and carefree lives of just a few years earlier. These people simply did not see what was coming.

  1. I wonder if there were bread lines (or coffee and doughnut lines) that primarily served women?

  2. Most of these men would have been pounding the pavement looking for work, while their wives were home trying to scrape together something to feed herself and the children. Very few women would have been looking for an outside job.
