Dancing Charleston

Today's picture shows more Charleston Dancing in the 1920's. The picture includes Frank Farnum, who I believe originated the dance. The picture was taken in 1925.

  1. Daring in the 20's I bet

  2. I bet so! Just as the waltz had been daring in its day because the couple touched (gasp!), the Charleston was daring partly because they didn't. But oh, the body language! I suspect that even if the expression wasn't used then, "Shake that bootie!" definitely applied. It looked like fun, was supposed to be easy to learn, and the music it was danced to wasn't particularly respectable, either. All that appealed to the young, of all classes. Daring!
