Child of the Dust Bowl

Today's picture shows a child of the Dust Bowl. The picture was taken in 1936 in Cimarron County, Oklahoma. The children who grew up in the dust bowl went on to become America's greatest generation. If such adversity created such strong adults, one wonders what the abundance of today's youth will bring.

  1. This really is interesting, my Grandparents lived through the dust bowl in Okla. it affected Kansas too. No work for so many years, my Grandfather got a job planting hedgerow trees to help the fields regenerate. They lived in a tiny shack about 20 by 15 ft and considered themselves very lucky.

  2. Well. PJM, take their cell phones away, and you have a generation of lost souls.

  3. Not to worry. There's still plenty of misery in the land, if you take time to look for it.
