Beans

Today's picture shows a farmer picking up his beans in preparation for planting. The picture was taken in 1940 in Pie Town, New Mexico. The picture reminds me of the interesting movie, The Milagro Beanfield Wars. That was a good movie, but it was not very well known.

  1. One of my favorite movies. Starring Sonia Braga's magnificent mane of hair.

  3. You showed a picture recently of a feed store, commenting that it "specialized" in print sacks that farm wives used to make pretty clothing from. I doubt anybody would vie with one another to get a bean bag like this to make a dress from! A towel to use in the barn, maybe, or in the kitchen in desperation, but not a dress, surely! Still, I love the sombrero, so unlike the stetson we've seen in some pictures of cowboys. This is the Mexican influence. Also love the overalls of the man in the background, the universal clothing of the farmer across the land. I found a pair of worn overalls in a thrift store and bought for myself about 15 yrs ago. They were kind of stylish at the time, and hugely comfortable for casual wear.
