Insurrection Week would not be complete without a picture of famed freedom fighter Emilio Zapata. Zapata is perhaps best remembered for his quote, "I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees". This picture was taken in 1911.

  1. Now this is a man who looks ready for business!

  2. He definitely looks like a proud man and one I'd rather have as a friend than an enemy.

  3. One of my favorite characters in history.

  4. A romantic handsome, charismatic figure, indeed, who seems well aware that all those adjectives apply to him. While I know his name, I know nothing else about him. He does not look at all like the peasants and farmers in so many of the other pictures this week. Guess I'll start with Wikipedia to learn more about him. Also intriguing in this picture is the rather plain woman in the background looking straight into the camera. Who's she, and what's her role in the story? These old pictures are so fascinating . . . .
