Florence Nightingale

Today we feature a photograph of Florence Nightingale. She is remembered as the founder of modern nursing. She rose to prominence in the Crimean War, where a group of women she trained provided care for wounded soldiers.

  1. She and her nurses, not the doctors, lowered the death toll among the wounded by 80% through their expert round the clock care and attention. She saw nursing as a profession that should be highly paid and have the same status as medicine.
