Gathering Firewood

Welcome to Firewood Week here at OPOD. The temperatures are starting to cool off and we are getting near the time we can start up the old fireplace. We actually heat our home with firewood. I love being able to keep the house nice and toasty in the winter using just the fireplace.

This picture was taken in 1937 in Michigan. Michigan has some cold winters so I hope they gather a full load!

  1. Wheels and likely axle off a Model A Ford, and a reign pole.

  2. Wonderful photo. This brings back memories of unloading trailer loads of wood every fall as a kid in preparation for the upcoming winter. Now we have a wood stove in our LR and get much enjoyment and use from it all winter. And we have been cutting dead ash trees, splitting and stacking for another MI winter.

  3. I lived in a house in Laramie Wyoming, while a student, which we heated with firewood. Keeping in mind the altitude, and that the winters were pretty cold in the years that I lived there, that was something. We cut all our wood in the fall prior to school starting, and made it all winter long.
