Pool Hall

Today's picture shows a Pool Hall in California. The picture was taken in 1940 near the Shasta Dam project. When I was growing up, pool was definitely considered a very bad thing, and I would have been in a lot of trouble if my parents ever heard I was playing pool. Pool was associated with betting, fighting, drinking and smoking.

  1. And people that don't wash their cars.

  2. The window advertises Tobacco Candy. Do you think they had Tobacco AND Candy?

  3. Somebody once said "There is nothing as useless as a really good pool player".

  4. I was raised in Iowa, and of course the Music Man was a delight for us all, including the song about trouble in River City: that begins with a T and that rhymes with P and that stands for POOL!

When I was a kid, Grandma used to send me down to the pool hall to claim my dad and grandpa from time to time. But I wasn't to go in.
