Old Gas Station

Today's picture is from 1939, and it shows a service station in Butte, Montana. Interesting that gas was eighteen cents a gallon. I can remember in the 1960's gas being in the 20 something cents a gallon. It was a pretty big shock in the 70's when gas actually hit a dollar a gallon. I can remember that the gas pumps and the signs had not been configured properly for gas to ever reach that level.

  1. Well! This is taken in the east section of what is called 'Uptown', about a mile or so east of my house. Looks very different now, this was at the time the mines were still producing a little copper and molybdenum. The structure at the top right is still there, called a headframe. The lower one is gone.
