Harvesting Oats

Today's picture shows some farmers harvesting oats. The picture was taken in 1940. At this time lots of folks were still using mules or horses for farming, so this was pretty good to have a nice tractor and combine at this point in time.

  1. What a beautiful picture that is!
I wonder if this particular tractor had a starter motor or is one of those you'd use a crank to hand start it? It seems to have the little socket in front where you'd put the tool, but I don't know much about this machinery to be anything but guessing ...

  2. My Uncle Farris Gadbury was the first to own a combine in Long Cove, TX. He would travel from farm to farm and they would all use it together.
