Woman Mechanic

Today's picture shows a woman mechanic working on a Stutz Weightman Special on the side of a race track. The picture was taken in 1916 at the Benning Race Track near Washington DC.

  1. Very nice picture. Love the neat engine showing too. As for the woman, judging by the head gear I'd say she might takes the car for a spin, as a test driver if not a racer herself.

  2. Neat picture. I don't know which I like better, her race car or her shoes! : )

  3. I kind of doubt she's a real mechanic. The shoes are dress shoes. She is wearing gloves and mechanics really never wear gloves. Her overalls are too long, so they probably belong to someone else. My guess is she is maybe a movie star of the time or some other sort of celebrity and it's a PR photo of some sort.

  4. I'm not buying for one minute that she is a mechanic.
