Welcome to Sharecropper Week here at OPOD. We will be taking some time to look at the life of sharecroppers some hundred years ago.

We start with this picture of a sharecropper's wife and cabin. The picture was taken in 1937 about ten miles south of Jackson Mississippi.


  1. From what I know of history, I think the fate of a share cropper was not much better than slavery - minus the beatings.

  2. Looks like the builder couldn't afford or find a square?

  3. I like the photo. The woman is poor, but nicely turned out. The house is rickety but neat.
