Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!
The lady in the stripes looks to be very suspicious of our intrepid photographer! Was hoping for a domestic update this morning...sigh!
Interesting - most of the men are slouched in their chairs, while the women are sitting up so straight their backs don't touch the canvas. Although, to be honest, don't see how they *could* lean back with those hats!
The women may well be wearing corsets. We could use a return to modesty.
Modesty, style, and hygiene are sure to make a comeback.
I've never gone to the beach in such style, but I certainly remember the days, as late as the early 1960s, when one "dressed" to fly on an airplane. In that era, we still wore gloves to formals, too, and hats to church, thank you very much. ;)
Amen to you Shoreacres. As a child of the fifties, I long for the formality, civil behavior, and integrity found at all levels of society. I would really like to see the kids of today being raised as we were learning the above from full time, caring parents. Maybe I will last long enough to see the trend return.
Very classy. I wonder what these folks would think of the attire (or lack there of) on our beaches today. I think the men and women look lovely. -Anne K.
What style back then....Yes, very different style of dress today - it's a type of dressing down for every occasion I believe. All the best Jan
