This picture is interesting to me because it gives you a sense of how low-rise London was until relatively recent. The Tower seems like it was more of a visual marker. Today, almost all the photos of the Tower are taken from the river and are more closely cropped to provide the viewer less of a sense of the structure being so out of place in a sea of glass skyscrapers.
