This is another great picture of the D-Day invasion at Normandy. You can get a feel for the magnitude of the operation.


  1. Interesting photo. My 13YO son, who is a WWII history buff, thought the photo was likely taken later in the invasion when the reinforcements got there. He also commented that it looked like low tide.

    Your son is correct, this is definitely after the initial invasion, the first men to take the beach head were in much smaller landing craft which were launched from these vessels. I would think that this is several days after the first landing...judging from the organization of supplies on shore and the amount of ships which are close to shore.
