Skiing

Today's picture is from Dutch Flat, California. It was a mining town in the mid-1800's. It looks like this guy was not so much skiing for sport as he was out of necessity. Looks like a pretty cold winter.

  1. Snow up to the attic window, makes me glad I live down south.

  2. I don't know if it was a cold winter, but by any standard, that IS a lot of snow!

  3. We live about 20 miles (and 2000' lower) than present day Alta, CA, and they haven't seen that much snow since 1952. There has been a significant decrease in the amount of snow received in the lower altitudes around here since I was in grade school in the 50's. There has been a definite change in climate around here since then, and a definite change since the days of the Donner Party.
