Bear Hunters

Welcome to Hunter Gatherer Week here at OPOD. We will look at pictures from back in the day when men were really men. Back before political correctness and before men became spineless woosies. We start with picture of Bear Hunters. Wow, what an exciting life that must have been! The picture was taken in Alaska in 1906.

  1. Wow, I hope not all of us are spineless woosies ! I know at least two people who have straight strong spines with a smart brain on top of them.

Seriously, your point is well taken and I have a pet peeve that the communication media ( TV and Radio ) have a campaign now to make women the strong unit in homes and businesses by portraying the woman as the long-suffering master of a houseful of idiot husbands who can hardly stand up and talk. The new "boss" in business is an aggressive, sharp tonged tigress dealing with idiot men on her payroll.

Maybe this is a flash trend that will self adjust (collapse ) with time if we can just wait a little longer. Could I out arm wrestle my boss?

    1. No, but I am sure the Lovely Mrs. PJM would wholeheartedly support any bear hunting interests that I might have.

  3. What a neat photo. That largest bear skin is BIG! And I wonder if the smaller skin above it is a wolverine?
I had to LOL at your "spineless woosies" description, PJM. I have to agree with Al's comment of the media portrayal of men. (Another reason not to watch TV.) I think there are still real men out there but they are harder to find in this current age.

  4. You and Al are right about the political correctness.

The indoctrination starts in school, where they try to turn little boys into girls and then when they won't sit still, they claim ADD, ADHD or some such rot and drug the boys into being zombies.

Boys have to move and they need discipline.

  5. I'm English so am not used to blood sports and hate guns, I agree men are becoming woosies and I'd rather been seen dead that carry a "man" bag but I am quite frankly offended that you think killing bears is in anyway a good idea,It's got nothing to do with political correctness, something which working in factories all my life I haven't had to to endure! I've enjoyed your blog over the years but am going to stop following it.

  6. I hunted for 40 years. Killing a defenseless animal does not make a male a man.
I gave up hunting when I finally threw off what I was told to believe and started using my own intelligence. I can still kill beast or man if necessary, and I still have enough arms and ammunition to start a small scale war, but there is no joy in killing an animal for what is deemed as a sport.

    1. It took you 40 years to figure out that you didn't like to hunt? Really! When did brown bears become defenseless?

    2. When someone took their big guns away...

    3. When did a brown bear become defenseless? When it's sitting 200 yards away eating berries and you're pointing a high powered rifle at it from a safe distance. If you want to take on a bear with say just a knife, then go for it. At least there would be some balance in the confrontation.
Yeah it took me 40 years. Started hunting at about 8 years old. Better to understand late, than never.

  8. It is actually wussy with a w replacing the p to be a little bit less offensive or profane. To the english Andy Stone: don't be such a wussy! And quit whining about the cold PJM. Its not as bad as Culberson was when we got snowed in.
