Texas Cowboys

I consider this to be a fine cowboy picture. It was taken somewhere in Texas around 1908. He is on a hill overlooking a herd of cattle. It looks like very nice range land with lots of grass and no brush.

  1. That is a great picture. I am so glad someone thought to take some of these pictures of just everyday life.

  2. I'm told that this is what a majority of Texas looked like before the Mesquite bush/trees took over. These trees rob the ground of water and slowly dry the land until it has trouble producing anything for man or beast.

It is expensive to remove effectively so many ranches simply let it take over. The government has removal programs but the 50% match still makes it very hard for the rancher to do.
