Playing Cards

Today's picture shows a man with a stack of poker chips playing cards. The picture was taken in 1930 and presents a rather more elegant look at vice. It is interesting to look at pictures and movies from this era and see how glamorous looking the advertisers and movies made smoking look.

  1. Smoking- yuck!

There is nothing glamorous about it or the diseases it causes.

From what I understand, the cigarette/cigar makers advertised Hollywood heavily. Glamorizing the cancer sticks was part of the deal.

  2. The smoking issue aside, what a grand, wonderful photograph of the 30s. Thanks.

  3. I don't know how many people have noticed this, but you hardly see on screen smoking anymore.

    Thank you Hollywood!!!

  4. Jimmy Stewart had a great radio show, The Six Shooter, that was prematurely cancelled when he refused to allow cigarette sponsorship. An enjoyable listen you can find at some of the online old radio show sites.
