Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!
Great photo. This woman looks like a real character and I wouldn't want to haggle with her over chicken prices. Or maybe she's in the middle of changing that flat tire so not at her best? A true slice of 1930's American life...love it! -Anne K.
Change the clothes and the car and you have the same thing at our Farmer's Market.
We've been tying all sorts of stuff to our cars ever since the car was around. I'd like to see this one going down the road with a chicken coop tied on to the back bumper. Not long ago I saw a guy driving a Ford Taurus down the highway with a glass storm door tied to the roof. It started flapping in the breeze and sure enough got loose. It flew off into the air going end over end and smashed all over the road in front of me. I just missed it. Ever sice then if I see someone with something tied to the roof of their car, I'm getting in the other lane. That includes chickens tied to the back bumper!
She is dressed just like two of our neighbor ladies back in the 1960's when I was growing up. We bought fresh eggs from one, the other was a fabulous flower gardener.
