Today's picture was taken in 1921, and it shows a woman handing out Salt Water Taffy. We have not talked much about Taffy this week. Taffy is one of those candies that is OK, but usually not the first thing you would pick if you had a choice.

Visting Atlantic City (where this pic was taken) as a kid, it was always a tradition to bring home Taffy.
This may be a silly question, but why is taffy only seemingly available at the sea shore????

  2. Very interesting photo. I think the lady handing out the taffy may be having more fun than anyone else pictured. Is that a Civil War cannon behind the guy on the left with arms akimbo? Is he looking at those kids with disapproval? Were the customers pleased to know that their taffy was untouched by human hands?

  3. You can still get Bonomo's taffy in the grocery stores. Put it into the freezer for a while, and then smack it hard on the counter to break it into bite-sized pieces. There was a candy store in Baltimore in the late 40ss that sold taffy; my grandfather used to go downtown on the streetcar to visit his brother and then but me a bag of taffy to eat on the way home. (And probably to shut me up, too.)
