Throwing Lariat

Today's picture is from 1905, and it shows a cowboy throwing a lariat. Cowboys would "rope" cattle so that they could be branded, dehorned, or other routine maintenance. The picture is from a ranch in Colorado.

  1. A great action shot. I don't care for the coloring effects but still a neat photo.

  2. I like watching rope tricks. I have tried to duplicate them with no success.

  3. Don't quote me on this, but I think that one of the secrets to doing rope using a cable and not a rope. A cable is woven diferently and holds it's shape where a rope is too flexible.
