Farm Wife

Country Life continues today with this iconic image of a Farm Wife. The picture was taken in the 1930's, during the great depression. Funny how society today would not view this woman as attractive for the most part, but in the picture, she exudes virtue. She is a worker, and I am sure a wonderful mother and wife. Funny how much what we value has changed.

  1. I grew up on a farm, and it is not as idyllic as we'd like to think. Lots of HARD work, and always a chance that a drought or sudden frost could wipe out a year's work. Without electricity, grabbing a package of veggies or meat from the freezer wasn't an option, so not only did you hoe beans all morning, but you had to take time to shell peas, start the meat, and bake bread before the men came in from threshing. Been there, done that, and got the T-shirt.

  2. I love this photo. This lady is the exact image I have of my grandmother out in her garden. Exact same hat. I'm a 62 year old lady and I wish all women today dressed so modestly. Grandmother worked hard and she was my hero, and still is in my memories.

  3. Yes, she does exude virtue. We lost a lot when we lost our modesty.

  4. I think she is beautiful. We should all have what we see in her today. Lam
