We continue our celebration of the arrival of Spring by making this Fishing Week here at OPOD. We will be looking at photographs of that most relaxing tradition. This is a classic photograph of a girl fishing with a simple stick fishing pole. I can remember growing up fishing with Cane Poles, which were just a piece of cane, with a string and hook. Ah yes, the good old days.

  2. Always love the pics with children in them. Nowadays you would never let your young child play around open water without a lifevest and full time supervision. My family and I are moving in 5 days to the woods in the Poconos, PA. There is a pond in the woods behind our house and I am already wondering how this will work out with my little ones.

  3. Exactly how I learned to fish with my Grandfather. Cane pole line, hook and cork. I remember using mulberries and of course worms. The best of times. MJ

  4. I seem to remember catching more and bigger fish using the above equipment insteasd of the fiberglass, gear driven reel, and $6.00 dollar lure. Yesss..... the old days were the best. The way things are going, we may need to rehone our skills in these survival arts.

I remember going fishing or at least with pole in water just laying in the sun for long hours.

  7. First a picnic, now you want to go fishin'. It's supposed to snow tomorrow, and the ice isn't off the lakes yet, so...spring you say.

  8. The "good old days" are not gone! We can still go fishing with cane poles; we can still go on picnics; and we can still lie in the cool grass and watch the clouds go by. Almost everything we enjoyed doing in years of long ago, we can still do -- if we have a mind to! So, again, I say, the "good old days" are not gone!!!
