Arabia Week
Welcome to Arabia Week here at OPOD. We start with this picture from the early 1900's showing a desert Bedouin with his camels.
By "Arabia" we do no mean Saudi Arabia, but basically we will be looking at pictures from the last days of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire goes all the way back to the dark ages and ended shortly after World War I.

I took a ride on one of these beasts in Australia a couple of years ago. It was very uncomfortable, and the family jewels were constantly in harms way. I was really glad to get off in one piece.
ReplyDeleteTerrific photograph. I love it. This is going to be a good week -- Arabia week! I look forward to it with excitement. Charlie Leck
ReplyDeleteI've always thought camels were fascinating beasts.
ReplyDeleteArabia week ought to be great!
One of my favorite pieces of music is Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade.
I am really looking forward to the pictures this week. It is a fascinating culture.
ReplyDeleteAre we also going to be treated to a Domestic Update tomorrow? I hope so.
