Culture Clash

I love the contrasts in this picture. In the foreground you see a group of African Natives, and in the background you see a plane from British Imperial Airways. The picture was taken in the Sudanese desert in 1936. The British came to Africa, and now they are gone, and not much has changed in Africa.

  1. I do a lot of sewing. Sometimes I think about how easy togas and other similar types of clothes would be to make. These are even simpler still with no under tunic to make. But a windy day would cause lots of problems!

  2. Very neat photo. Not an ounce of fat on those natives. The British sure had a far reaching empire at times.

  3. Martin and Osa Johnson films of 1920's Africa were a Saturday morning television highlight as a boy. Watching them fly their biplanes into never before seen areas, and seeing the response of the natives, was fascinating. Thanks once again, PJM, for a great series of photos!

  4. PJM, yoou make a very good point. The British came and went and nothing changed. The Americans have gone into certain areas of the world and tried to impose their ways, and nothing changes. Time to go home now, please.
