Man in Stylish Hat

This rugged looking individual is sporting a quiet stylish hat look with the brim turned down on one side, and slightly up on the other. The high side is not pinned up like the Australian hats, but gently folded up. For  those of you who don's recognize him, this is Edward Curtis, who took most of the Native American photographs we have featured on this site.

  1. It looks like he couldn't make up his mind on how or what kind of hat to wear. Kind of a cross between 6 different types and ways.

I wondeer if he took his own photo?

  4. Being as photography is my hobby I have ran across Curtis's photo many times and that hat has always interested me because the brim on his left is wide and the brim on the right is short. It's almost like he took a standard fedora style and cut the right brim then pinned it up. The man had 'style'.

  5. I'm with Marlu...That is one good looking man!
I'm pretty sure he would have looked good in any hat.

  6. As hobby photographer who has used a "field camera" that hat may also be useful. There would be a variation in the shade with rotation. I need to get my eyes close to the ground glass to see focus. With ground glass focus is a noun.
That hat also would turn the rain nicely.

  7. Yes, a handsome man. What do you guess his age is in this photo?

  8. Isn't this Edward Curtis, the photographer who did the 20 volume book of pictures on Indians early in the 20th century?

  9. Never mind - I see you did identify him!! And it isn't even Monday. Curtis had an interesting life and managed to alienate most of his family over his Indian photograph projects as he literally bankrupted himself with it.
