Silverton, Colorado



Today's picture shows the Boom Town of Silverton, Colorado. Silverton is in Southern Colorado in a beautiful mountain setting. You can take a narrow gauge railroad from Durango to Silverton. It is a magnificent ride.

  1. There are Boom Towns out side of military bases.

    Daddy was in the Army, and as I recall,the Boom Towns were very seedy.

    I can recall that at one post, the Post Commander made the Boom Town off limits to all military personnel. I suspect that order was not followed as well as the Commander would have liked.

  2. HMMM, a couple of buildings called the HITCHIN POST, yet not a hitchin post in sight.

  3. Been to Silverton, took the train, nice trip. Very scenic, touristy, and has a grave with the marker - "I told you I was sick!"
