I have always been fascinated by the Old West, so this week will be Deadwood Week here at OPOD. We will be looking at the sites of this iconic gold rush town of the late 1800's. Today's picture was taken in 1890, and shows the City Hall of Deadwood.

They don't build buildings like that anymore. Today most of them have the appeal of garbage can.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the modern buildings either.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea Deadwood had such a substantial building! It looks like a photo from St. Joe, through which many of the residents may have come.
ReplyDeleteBeing an uneducated Aussie, I thought Deadwood was a fictional town in the movie musical Calamity Jane. Clearly it was based on a real life town. I'm looking forward to this week's photos! By the way PJM, I recommended this blog on my blog here is the link if you are interested.

Is that a person with a gun up in the clock tower?
ReplyDeleteCity Hall must of doubled as the Fire Station. Are those ladder's on the wagon in the picture?
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't been to Deadwood in the past 20 years...you'll be in for quite a surprise.
ReplyDeleteDeadwood is full of casinos....since 1990 when South Dakota legalized gambling there. It kind of ruined the nice little town that it used to be. There is now a large roadway around the town and hotels being built on the hill outside of town.
The place like Nevada had some real rollicking doings for a while!
