Eskimo Whalers

Today's picture shows a group of Eskimo Whalers. They are launching their boat for the hunt. The picture was taken in 1929. The boat seems fairly small to me for the task at hand.

  1. In Herman Melville's day the Americans would
have used a similar sized boat or smaller.

  2. It would be interesting to see a picture of one of these boats after it was launched. The boat would certainly need to be stable, but I don't know...

  3. Come on guys, they aren't going to sail across the ocean, just do some hunting and/or fishing.
