We wrap up Blacksmith Week today with this picture of an old Blacksmith Shack. It is a reminder of a quieter and simpler time that is long gone. The picture was taken in 1935 in North Carolina.

About this site:
I have been an avid collector of old photographs and documents for over 30 years. The photographs on this site are derived from material I have collected over the years. Some came from old family albums, some from material I bought at flea markets over the years, and some from government archives of public domain images, including the US Library of Congress, and the National Archives. We appreciate you visiting this blog, and hope you find it interesting.

Interesting, even back in those times they advertised their prices.
ReplyDeleteOn the side of the shack it says HORSE SHOEING, then under that, in chalk it says 1.25. With the $ being in paint.
So it looks like if something big was going on in town (like a hanging) he could change his prices in a mattern of seconds, not that he would though.
"Simpler & quieter" are two very attractive words.
ReplyDeleteI bet he enjoyed his work and had a lot less headaches then most today.
I enjoyed "Blacksmith Week", thanks.
Eric
It looks like he should have up a GONE FISHING sign, as closed up as it is.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photography and beautiful texture! It is a pleasure to visit your site.
ReplyDeleteHope to see you on my blog:)
Is that a spreading chestnut tree?
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the begining of the Andy Grifith show. Andy and Opie walking along a wooded path to the ole fishin hole. Everyone can whistle that theme song.
ReplyDeleteVery good photo!
