Today's picture was taken in 1913, and it shows a woman with a baby stroller and an umbrella. She is also wearing a very fancy hat. I like to see how elegantly people dressed back in this era.

Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!
About this site:
I have been an avid collector of old photographs and documents for over 30 years. The photographs on this site are derived from material I have collected over the years. Some came from old family albums, some from material I bought at flea markets over the years, and some from government archives of public domain images, including the US Library of Congress, and the National Archives. We appreciate you visiting this blog, and hope you find it interesting.

That woman certainly has an odd look on her face. The kid's enjoying himself.
ReplyDeleteIs that fake rain or was it old time photo-shopped? It looks like a studio photo to me.
Nice clothes. I like old time clothes. I do historical sewing as a hobby.
This is definitely a commercial photo, which might explain the fancy clothing, although people did get Dressed in thsoe days. That umbrella would never keep her dry, held that way. I love the various ways people protected their children from the elements, and still got them out in the fresh air every day.
ReplyDeleteThe lovely lady probably had to hold that pose for quite some time until the baby grinned.
ReplyDeleteOh I find this one incredible! :) Thank you as always! x
ReplyDeleteI agree it is a commercial photo of some kind.
ReplyDeletePJM - what about a domestic update, where are the peacocks and peahens? What about your extensive hydroponics adventure? Still going strong? What about the lovely Miss EAM? Is she still sick..last post is still yours from the 28th. Have you flown to Africa to bring her home yet?
Questions, questions, questions.
Looks like that carrage has all the bells and whistles. Very fancy.
ReplyDeleteI think the baby carriage is an English forerunner to the US sold "Stroll-O-Chair" of the 1970's. I bought one for a large sum of money (to me) in 1971 for my first child. Paid on that bill until my 2nd child was born in 1973. But the stroller held up for child #3 and #4 and even converted into a highchair. I think I got my money's worth. And I do love umbrellas!
