Roaring Twenties

Welcome to the Fashions of the Roaring Twenties Week here at OPOD. We will be looking at the clothes and styles of this period. We start with this picture from 1925 which shows some of the over the top looks people were going for back then. I will be honest with you that I am not a fan of looks from this period. In particular, I don't care for how the women all appeared to have their hair short, and pasted down to their heads.

  1. I dont like the 20' too :/ the look is weird, short hair and this weird head things... the 50-60' are wayyy better!

  2. I don't know what look they were going for, but I think they missed it.

  3. To me it looks like a contest as to who made the best looking homemade dog. Why else would they each hold one?

  4. It looks like a festival of some kind and not their normal dress. The three don't look very happy about it, whatever it was!

  5. All four women actually look like men. Sure they're women?

  6. I agree with the above poster; they all look like men? The 20's look is not my favorite, but better than most of today's styles...at least the styles are modest.
I really enjoy your blog! :) I hope your daughter is feeling better.

  7. The clothes are ridiculous. They look like exotic birds ready for the mating dance. I think the idea behind the hair was that it was liberating, not so much intended to be found attractive by men. The look made a brief comeback when i was a teen (-the feathers and a little less flamboyant).I enjoy your pictures by the way!

  8. My Grandmother was in her 20's in the 20's. She had had typhoid fever in which all her hair came out. When it grew back, it was natural curly. The style was bobbed and straight. She tried everything to get the curls out. I wish I could have inherited just a little bit of those curls.

  9. Well, I think Louise Brooks was hot.

  10. Furthermore, Annette Hanshaw was hot, too.

  11. Those outfits would look a lot better if they lost the ridiculous headgear. Then I'm not much of a hat person at all.

  13. These really look like costumes to me. I think parties with outragous costumes were a big thing with the well-to-do back then.

  14. Hi there! I also really think they are men, literally all their faces look like they could be men and their shoulders seem angular too!
Perhaps this was a dress up joke!
