The Dead Sea

Umbrella Week continues here at OPOD with this picture of a man floating in the dead sea. The picture was taken in the 1910's. The dead sea is so salty, you float like a cork when you get in it. This gentleman is enjoying a good book as he floats in the sea. Not sure how he turns the page since the umbrella is in his other hand.

  1. I've been there, didn't like it. It's a dangerous place, if you slip and swallow water you can dy within 15 minutes. I guess the whole floating in the Dead Sea is a bit overrated. The mud smearing was fun though.

The Dead Sea is rapidly shrinking. Last year, when we drove by, the drastic effects were clearly visible.

  2. Bet he would have appreciated a Kindle which can be turned with one hand.

  3. I'd like to try floating in the Dead Sea. I think it would be an interesting experience.

I was hoping to hear today how your daughter is recovering from her illness. Africa is no place to get seriously ill.... my prayers have included her.

  4. Drove past the Dead Sea, didn't get to float in it. I thought the Golan Heights were more impressive. Easy to see why Israel is reluctant to give them back to Syria.

Keep watching EAM's site for an update..none yet. Hope she is feeling a little better on the road to recovery.

  5. I bet you come out of that feeling sticky
