Sharpening Spears
I will admit that since being in Africa, I have not seen any children sharpening spears on a stone. I do find this picture from 1936 interesting though. It is peculiar that the dog looks better fed than the child. I wonder if the dog was simply a pet, like we normally think of a dog, or if the dog had some job that warranted its keep.

That is a pretty small spear shank for the size of spear point on it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dog......
ReplyDeleteHis job was likely to be food for the hungry - maybe.
ReplyDeleteThe dog is watching his back.
ReplyDeleteI mean it, he is watch the kids back
Maybe he was a herd dog. Or maybe he is better fed than the kid because he is a better hunter.
ReplyDeleteIt is 64 here now with an inch of rain on the way. I wish it would go to Texas.
Myrtle: it has gone to Texas! Water is standing in all the fields. Telephone poles &fences are falling over from the saturated ground. This morning I saw 3 city workers SHOVELING water into a big pail so they could get on with their work! This is in the very center of TX. Hutto.
ReplyDeleteP.S., the "milking camels" message is "page not found"...what happened?
