Cigarette Ad

Good Tuesday Morning to you all. I hope you enjoyed your Labor Day Weekend. Today we feature a photograph from a cigarette advertisement in 1900. The advertisement was for "Egyptian Deities" cigarettes.

DOMESTIC UPDATE:

Well, we took the lovely Ms. EAM and dropped her off at the Dallas/Fort Worth airport. She departed for her mission trip, but we have yet to hear from her. It could take several days for her to reach her final destination, so we are eagerly awaiting word of her safe arrival.

  1. It is funny how deceitful some people can be about smoking, I started dating this woman, we had a lot in common. She worked in the ER at the hospital and I was an EMT. I noticed that during our make out sessions she would go to the bathroom more often than usual. After a few weeks of this she came back one time, and when we kissed she tasted like a old ash tray. Come to find out she had been going to the bathroom turning on the fan and having a cigarette, then using mouth wash, but she forgot to rinse that time. She begged and pleaded with me, but I was out of there. I told her if she really did quit then call me. She couldn't quit, so we never dated again.

  2. I'm danged tired of people treating me like a criminal when I light up a Lucky!
I'll tell you, they indoctrinate all of the kids from the time they are born that smokings no good for ya. I'm not gonna argue that point, but I will make another one!!!
No one wants to talk about the amount of kids today who are not smokers but are hooked on illegal drugs. In my neck of the woods I used to enjoy going to the park in the afternoon and having a smoke. If I do that now i'll be spending the night in the slammer!
Think about it, a legally sold product that the Pres. of the US of A and the Speaker of the House use, and you can go to jail under certain condtions for using it!!!
And the taxation on cigs is criminal!!!
This is what I fought for in WWII????
By the way, what the esteemed politicians who made smoking in my favorite park illegal fail to recognize that at a certain time in that very park kids are dealing in heroin.
But they won't enforce that law, will they? Dang!!!!!!
    On the personal side,
PJM, congrats on your lovely daughter and her mission to Kenya. You can be very proud to have raised such a fine little girl.
I guarantee you, she is unfortunately in the minority.
Keep posting the pics, young man, and I'll keep lookin' at 'em.

  3. I listen to Alltime Oldies radio programming on my computer, and sometimes they run the ads from the 1940's and '50's. There are a lot of cigarette and laundry soap ads and some for gasoline Most of the brands don't exist now.

The cigarette ads really point out how little was truly known about the damage cigarettes could do to one's health. "Three out of four doctors recommend Fatima brand cigarettes ---" etc.

  5. Cigarette smoking is disgusting. It gives me migraines and my kids asthma so I try to avoid it.

I do feel somewhat sorry for smokers (but am glad for the smoking ban in restaurants). The politically correct police are out to get them, a crowd that has no common sense, no sense of humor and is determined to destroy America. Kids can't read Bibles in school but pornography is fine, you can't say homosexuality is a sin and that Islam wants us all dead or slaves,we must legalize pot and other drugs but ban transfats! America is in real trouble.

The photo is interesting with a beautiful costume. I like it.

  6. Great pictures. Fun to see ladies with no orthodontic work and no boob jobs, just natural beauty.

Hope you and Mrs can comfort each other. She'll be home soon! God bless you all!

  7. i quit smoking 6 years ago and cant stand the smell at all anymore , but if you want to smoke be my guest i live in NC and that is a big part of our economy . when they stopped smoking in bars a few years back i knew the tobacco industry will be extinct in my lifetime (im 45). keep lighting up its your business not mine just like me drinking a beer is my business. PJM your daughter is doing a fine job and more kids should follow, the world would be a better place.

  8. I have a friend who has been on several missions to Africa, and she has quite the stories to tell. I guess you cannot even imagine what goes on over there unless you are right there in it. She is now on a mission in Mexico that is trying to keep young girls being brought into the US for purposes of prostitution. She says there are some very ugly things happening just south of the border.

I have never been a smoker, and I think the best thing would be a change in the health care laws that if you continue smoking, you are on your own for care of any smoking related diseases or conditions that may eventually appear. Of course, somebody would have to decide if it was related or not, and that would be the rub.

  9. Very pretty lady.
I wonder how they come up with cigarette names.

  10. Smoking differs from other habits of self-destruction in that those around you get to share it whether they like it or not. What really bothers me is all the litigation against the tobacco companies. As a kid (more than 50 yrs. ago) I remember cigarettes being called "cancer sticks' and "coffin nails". So why the big surprise decades later when these folks get sick? Why should they get paid? It makes no more sense than suing Smith and Wesson because you lost at russian roulette.

My wife and I were worried when our daughter (mid 20's) and her friends went down to DisneyWorld so I can sort of understand how you feel. Our church has kids going to Africa every year and never had a problem.

  11. Kenny D., that would not work. Your going down a slippery slope. By your logic then if you become over weight because you eat junk then get heart problems or diabetes your on your own? Like to drink? Your on your own? Develope skin cancer cause you sun bathe then your on your own?. Lets say you ride a motorcycle and have an accident, thats risky behavior, are you on your own?

regarding life insurance all these risks are factored into your premium. Smoke, sky-dive, overweightI?... you pay more or you are denied insurance. It would be very easy for heath insurance carriers to do the same. If the gov't doesn't destroy heath care altogether (and even if it does) then I would expect those changes as part of future contracts.

  13. Madison Ave. is good at distracting us...nice lady and elegant setting has nothing to do with cigarettes. Note to self: Watch out for this in current ads... I almost said "the only Egyptian deity I know of who looks dumb enough to smoke is that jackal headed one", but, no, I know very intelligent people who smoke... Mean Old Man: whenever I am so honored as to have a WWII vet in my home, you bet they can smoke all they want... It is a shame that smoker's rights are being so blatantly trod upon these days. Although I am against smoking, I am certainly against denying people their rights...

  17. Smoking is a nasty habit that makes you smell like car exhaust. Even back when it was all the rage it was disgusting. Although I can not agree with Mean Old Man I understand his ire I just think he should see it from a different perspective. It affects the health of all around him. If someone smokes around me I get sick. I end up coughing and hacking is it possible to be allergic to cigarettes. LOL I think I am sensitive because I grew up in a house of smokers. Its just, well gross. If you are going to smoke do it where it can not affect others. Just saying!
