Barber Shop

Good Friday Morning to you all. If I have not used your submitted photo yet, don't panic . . . I plan to make next week Favorite Family Photo Week as well. I have enough material for almost another week, but still need a few more people to submit photos. Then, I had a nice group of pictures submitted from Rafael on Cuba, and plan on having an entire week on Cuba. That will probably be week after next.

The picture above was submitted by Sue Williams. This is a picture of her Grandfather, Andy, and it was taken in New York in 1935. If you click on the picture to enlarge it, the printed material on the window is interesting.

  1. Hm,newest male styles modeled by women? Fine with me but I don't get it. Oh, ok, women got rid of long hair.

  3. Being a hairdresser I found this picture most interesting.
It is always amazing to me to look at the prices of things and what they are today.

  4. I guess what I found strange Was the Haircut price of .25 on the top line and the bottom line it was .20 / .25

  5. Now days the price of haircuts increases by $1 to $2 a year. And the barber wants a $3/$4 tip.

  6. I see you added a "My Pride And Joy" space on the left side, right below your "Followers" list.
How are her donations doing? Is there a deadline date on coming up with her total? If so, let me know and I will see If I can come up with some more money for her.

  7. Roger,
She has raised $3,700 of of the $5,000 she needs. This is great news in my mind. She has another church she will speak at this Sunday, and hopefully that will get her close to the goal line.

Turns out it is tough being a missionary. The churches primarily support mission boards, and the mission boards spend a lot on overhead and so forth . . . so the individual missionary is left in a tough spot.

Many thanks for the overwhelming generosity of folks on this site.

  9. This is my Grandpa and his barber shop. There is some type above and below the bottom "haircut" on the price sign, above it says "children's" and below it says "Saturday", to explain the confusion about the pricing, I had to skew it to be able to read it. And the sign on the right says newest "hair" styles..., not newest "male" styles, hard to read, I know.

  10. I really love this picture. Those prices on the window are wild. Roger mentioned the high cost of haircuts today. My girlfriends daughter is a hair stylist, I usually get mine for free but I couldn't wait anymore so I went down to the shop where she works. It was $5 dollar day. A haircut for 5 bucks! Wow. Anyway we were making small talk and she was telling me how she has been really short on cash (her and her hubby have a brand new baby), the bills are pileing up etc. So I gave her a $100 dollar tip. I'm more than glad to be able to help. I got home and my bargain hunter girlfriend says, "5 bucks thats a good deal huh". I told her, " Thats awesum honey, I really saved alot." Have a great weekend all.
