Today's picture is from the early 1900's, and it shows two Government Trappers in the White River National Forest in Colorado. It looks to me like they are trapping wolves.

About this site:
I have been an avid collector of old photographs and documents for over 30 years. The photographs on this site are derived from material I have collected over the years. Some came from old family albums, some from material I bought at flea markets over the years, and some from government archives of public domain images, including the US Library of Congress, and the National Archives. We appreciate you visiting this blog, and hope you find it interesting.

I wonder if that's what he's wearing on his head as well. Looks warm!
ReplyDeleteLooks like they have a pet wolf.
ReplyDeleteHappy July 4th! Independence Day for all US.
You are right about the wolf. Do wolves and dogs get along like that?
ReplyDeleteOn closer look' I think the wolf is not a pet. Looks like he may be laying on a table and has been freshly trapped. The animals feet are not on the ground. I think!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat wolf looks dead to me. His paws are not bearing any weight. I think the trappers didn't get around to skinning it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day! As Kate Smith sang..."God Bless America"

Yes, that wolf has seen better days. Looks like there is a bobcat skin on the wall behind them.
ReplyDeleteI think the two pelts to the left are both bobcats as both have a striped tail. The pelts appear to have been 'whited' out during a photo enhancement. I too think the wolf in the middle is dead as a doornail. The pelt to the extreme right may be a coyote or a young wolf. Cannot really tell.
