Warrior

OK, it was pointed out that I had used yesterday's picture before, and in fact had used it fairly recently. I really try to not re-use pictures, and try to give you a fresh old picture each day. Some times I do lose track of what I have shown. Also, I had not realized that I had done a Native American week fairly recently. So, I apologize for that.

Now, today's picture was taken in 1907. The picture was made by the Detroit Publishing Company. It shows a Assinaboine Indian named "Rattlesnake". I like it because he is on horseback, and pictured with a rifle. By 1907, the Indian wars were pretty much over, but the man is of an age that he probably lived through them.

  1. It looks like PJM needs a vacation.
    He must be stressed out.
He is repeating him self on photos and on weekly subjects. He even forgot to do a mystery person not long ago (though he did have a very good excuse). He has not given us a domestic update for going on 1 and 1/2 months.
Yes, I think PJM really needs a vacation, and needs to take a week off from posting and let his creative juices rejuvenate.
I know your loyal followers will forgive you if you do.

Lets see, what was that Evil Nate Maas blog site?

  2. Give PJM a break. It was over 40 days between the time he posted the original and duplicate photo. That's a long time for us old guys to remember things.

  3. I didn't mean to cause bad feelings yesterday. I guess I was just happy that I actually remembered seeing the picture before.

I'd be curious to hear the story about the subject in today's picture. I wonder if that neat lever action rifle was a trade item or a war trophy.

  5. Rattlesnake looks like the American Indian in the "Don't litter" campaign of the 1970's.

  6. Certainly no apology needed! Much to the contrary, we need to thank PJM for the excellent ongoing education and entertainment.

    Heartfelt thank you, sir.

  7. What about the horse? That is a medicine hat paint. And he's riding a saddle with stirups. I didn't think the Native American used western style saddles.
Very nice picture, and I enjoy seeing the horses.

  8. I think all good teachers everywhere could use a vacation, but I think PJM is doing a swell job!

  9. Great photos! I never get tired of seeing great subjects and composition. When I go to a museum, I see the same paintings and they are always wonderful.

  10. The guy definitely does look happy. And why not - probably a great day, good weather, has a horse he probably loves (though it looks a bit ragged, but then I'm no horse person so maybe that's the what that breed looks like normally?)

Don't worry about repeating things, I do it all the time now. I think it has something to do with age...
    ;)
