Sioux Chiefs
It has been a while since we have looked at Native Americans, so it is time for another Indian Week at OPOD. We will kick things off with this photograph by Edward Curtis. The picture was taken in 1905, and shows Sioux Indian Chiefs on horseback.

This picture reminds me of the good old western days of the prairie. Have you seen The Outlaw Josie Wales?
ReplyDeletePure Red,

can someone please tell me where the term redman became a description for indians i have always wondered thanks.
ReplyDeleteNot sure where and when, maybe Columbus? I dunno. But Im thinking the name comes from the same place and thought as did the (whiteman, blackman, brownman, yellowman ect..)came from. Just a generalistic name as does the others I mentioned above. I wouldn't ponder on it too hard tho. Hope this helps. Have a Great Day.
ReplyDeleteI just love looking over the old photos on your blog. God bless, Lloyd
