Bell Telephone

Today's picture was taken in 1916, and it shows a Bell Telephone truck. The picture was taken during a strike by operators. I am not sure if the truck is bringing in women to break the strike, or if the women on the truck are striking.

  2. Seeing as it is a Company truck, I doubt striking employees would have access to it . Most probably strike breakers.

  3. ...well on closer examination...there appears to be another truck (with a Ladder) that may be involved and a rather officious man giving directions/orders . It may have been the beginning of a strike , during which time , a vehicle parked out in front got "commandeered" for photo ops...
Don't these picture create all sorts of unanswered questions ? That's what makes them fascinating.

  4. I believe that when analyzing an old photograph there are many things we can deduce, but we will never be interseante is sure that was what was happening right then, since we have the following image to have an idea! I love this blog, I keep a few days luck and greetings!

  5. It is quite possible, given the paternalistic attitude Ma Bell had towards her female employees, that women were not allowed to join the union. If that is the case, the company bus may be taking them to work. Lineman and installers could go on strike, but those calls must go through!
