Indian Woman


You asked for "Indian Woman" week, and "Indian Woman" week you shall have. Due to all the comments requesting a week on Native American women, I have found a great group of pictures which I will show this week. The picture above is an Edward Curtis portrait from 1910. The woman is a Chinookan from Washington State. Her name is Wishham.

  3. It appears that the name Wishham is the name of a Tribe of Indians out in Washington State along the Columbia River, They seem to spell it Wish-Ham of the Yakama Nations

  13. What a great picture! I love Curtis! He was simultaniously a great artist with an eye for what his equipment was capable of and capturing the spirit of his subjects, while also scrupulously documenting their rapidly disapearing customs, styles, & peoples.
