Lillie Langtry

What better way to start a week than with a picture of Lillie Langtry. Lillie lived from 1853 to 1929. This picture as taken in 1912, which would put her in her late 50's. She was an accomplished actress, and was considered a strikingly beautiful woman. Her nickname was the "Jersey Lily".

She if perhaps most remembered as the subject of Judge Roy Bean's romantic infatuation, although I don't think the two ever met.

  1. What is it she is holding in her hand? One end looks like a tassle from a curtain pull, and on the other end appears to be a locket of some sort.

I can't imagine the amount of material she seems to be carrying around. It must be very heavy.

  2. There is an old book titled "Vinagroon" that covers some of Judge Bean in Langtree, Texas. He called himself "the Law West of the Pecos". It appears that he was the self-appointed Law, however.

  3. I just rewatched 'The Westerner' a few days ago. The Judge met Lilly only seconds before dying of a bullet from Cole Harden.

But of course that's just a movie.

  7. I think "Opulence" with both Lillie Langtry and Lillian Russell. I think wealth. Affluence. Abundance. I think it would have been hard to achieve this look back then before washers and dryers and hair dryers and air conditioning. But oh! what fun, trying!
