Lillian Russell

Good Sunday Morning to you all. From yesterday's Mystery Person Contest, you might have guessed that this week is going to be Famous Actress Week. Each day we will feature a beauty of a bygone era. Today's celebrity is Lillian Russell. The picture was taken in 1898. Lillian lived from 1861 to 1922. She was an accomplished stage actress, singer and performer.

Lillian was married four times, including once to Diamond Jim Brady. I find it interesting that failed marriages is a legacy for entertainers going way back.

  1. WOW! What finery & beauty. I wonder what is at the end of her pearl necklace. It looks like a sand donut.

  2. I couldn't find anything that agreed with Lillian Russell every having been married to Diamond Jim Brady.
It seems Diamond Jim never married.

I have to agree about the entertainment industry's miserable track record on marriage. In my opinion "America's Royalty" (entertainers) are spoiled children. They're overindulged and considered precious even when committing acts that would get the rest of us imprisoned or banished.

  3. I think the problem with celebrity marriages is an overabundance of ego. In any marriage, somebody has to take the lead, or at least admit that one person is better at math and the other at keeping the family schedule in hand, but celebs seem to think they know it all, better than anybody else. Just consider how many big stars are "experts" on foreign policy or child-rearing or anything else you can imagine.

  4. Jim and Lillian never got married. He did ask her to marry him, but she refused by telling him why ruin a beautiful friendship with marriage.

Have you found out what Handsome Jack has been up to yet?

  5. Lil seems to have a heart made of beads or small pearls on her necklace.

And yes, yes! What IS that devious Mr. Jack up to these days?
