Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!
About this site:
I have been an avid collector of old photographs and documents for over 30 years. The photographs on this site are derived from material I have collected over the years. Some came from old family albums, some from material I bought at flea markets over the years, and some from government archives of public domain images, including the US Library of Congress, and the National Archives. We appreciate you visiting this blog, and hope you find it interesting.

Is it John Robinson? John Robinson was a competitor of the Ringling Brothers.
ReplyDeleteDave,
ReplyDeleteNo not John Robinson.

I'll guess Richard Coke.
ReplyDeleteGovernor (and Senator) Richard Coke. Lawyer, statesman, and (probably gentleman) farmer from Waco, Texas. Now you can continue playing with your tractor!
ReplyDeleteNate and Rob,
ReplyDeleteYES! It is Richard Coke, Governor of Texas.
Prior to the Civil War, he was a delegate that voted FOR secession at the secession convention of Texas. After the war, he was elected Judge in Texas, but was removed by General Sheridan, who felt his efforts were not helpful to reconstruction. That riled people up, who then elected him governor.
A great Texan!

I never heard of Richard Coke. This was a great entry considering the surge with "Tea Party" rebels.
ReplyDeleteWasn't his wife's name Cherry?
ReplyDelete"Tea Party" stands for Taxed Enough Already. A rebellious notion to a wasteful government.
