Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!
About this site:
I have been an avid collector of old photographs and documents for over 30 years. The photographs on this site are derived from material I have collected over the years. Some came from old family albums, some from material I bought at flea markets over the years, and some from government archives of public domain images, including the US Library of Congress, and the National Archives. We appreciate you visiting this blog, and hope you find it interesting.

It's relatively late in the day for this to remain unsolved. Where's Nate? Or... did PJM misplace his phone booth necessary to change identities?
ReplyDeleteSorry. Nate looked for a time this morning and realized he had too much to do. I'm pretty sure I've never seen this photo and I didn't turn up anything good when I was searching today. It's a really neat looking photo. I'll have to leave this to someone else. If I were to keep guessing, I'd assume it's a actress/singer/dancer on a set. The outfit doesn't look oriental to me, perhaps Hungarian, but maybe just yesteryear misunderstanding what Oriental outfits were supposed to look like. The box also doesn't look Far Eastern to me, the round inserts make me wonder if this is supposed to be a combo makeup/jewelry case.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, if this photo has you stumped too, you're welcome to give a go at the one on my site starting in half an hour. My apologies if it just adds to the frustration - it's just intended for fun.
Lillian Gish?
ReplyDeleteI doubt this is right, but I'll throw it out there: is it a very young Margaret Hamilton?
ReplyDeleteIs it Indira Gandhi?
ReplyDeleteNorma Shearer the first lady of MGM? :)
ReplyDeleteLillian Langry? (If it's not PJM it SHOULD be! After all you are in Texas home of Judge Roy Bean who Adored Lilly Langry.)

:)
No, it would not be Mrs. PJM
ReplyDeleteFunny guess though.
Darn!
ReplyDeleteSarah Bernhardt?
ReplyDeleteIt is not Sarah Barnhardt
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm stumped. Nate's comments about the box are incorrect, I think. It looks to me that she is supposed to be a psychic or fortune teller in this photo. She has tarot cards.
ReplyDeleteI'll try again. Is it Florence Lee?
ReplyDeleteNot Florence Lee.
ReplyDeletePerhaps I should begin gathering ingredients for the Crepe Breakfast?
PJM

ReplyDeleteIt is not Florence Taylor, It is not Anna Pavlova, It is not Maria Nikolaevna Romanova.

ReplyDeleteHi again PJM and all
ReplyDeleteIs it Olive Cole
GAME OVER!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am the winner.
It is Stacia Napierkowska, an actress from the days of silent films, and a dancer.
PJM Wins!!!!
Congratulations. Enjoy your breakfast.
ReplyDeleteNow that was a good victory PJM! Silent film was my guess and is where I did most of my searching, never coming up with that actress! At as far as I can recall anyway. My eyes are still bleeding from this! The fact that women can look so different from one pic to the next made it all the more difficult. Hairstyles, coloring, make up, lighting and costuming can sure make them look like and entirely different person!
ReplyDeleteCongradulations!
